America is sliding into a recession due to the ripple effects of rising gas prices and the sub-prime mortgage crisis. As a public servant, the least YOU can do is protect your constituients (and yourself) from usurious and arbitrary interest rate increases that can ruin the lives of decent people who pay their bills on time. DO THE RIGHT THING -- VOTE FOR HR 5244!!

The time to stop this ongoing erosion of consumer rights and bombardment of the middle class is way long overdue. Please strongly support these measures and help restore some regulation and fairness to these financial businesses.

With Insurance Companies and Credit Card/banks ripping people off no wonder this country is imploding economically. One can only milk a cash cow for so long without feeding it till it dies. Ask any rancher.

We have been abused by 19 to 29% interests rates while they are buying money at 2.5% from the FED. A cap should be place on these immoral banking practices before summer recess. That will stimulate the economy more than a $600.00 dollar check.

It is my hope that you will will support
H.R. 5244: To amend the Truth in Lending Act,
when it comes up for a vote. Many of you constituent's are having trouble paying their unsecured and secured debts because of bad business practices used by the banking and lending industries. This piece of legislation is not a cure but it is a start in the right direction. Please consider the very desperate times that have befallen the very people you represent. Our lenders are currently operating with very limited rules and regulations. Oversight by our government is imperative. Please, do everything within your means to protect the people you were elected to serve.

I had a Sam's Club credit account. I was away from home and missed a due date. I called and asked to have the late fee removed ($29), and the representative agreed. I then decided to close the account, as I was concerned about this happening again. I was told I had to send the entire amount due, including the late fee, and it would be refunded to me. I complained but was told I had to do that, so I did. Of course, now Sam's Club says they have no record that they owe me any money. This is fraud, as far as I'm concerned. PLEASE pass HR 4255!!!! Get a grip on these people!!!!

The 20 to 30% interest rates, late fees, over limit fees and "change the rules anytime" method of operation has always been and will always be "loan shark" business. It use to be a crime but is now supported by business and congress. You changed the bankruptcy law for the credit card industry and punished the consumer but did not slap the credit card companies hands and restrict the exorbitant interest rates they charge. You are allowing these companies to bankrupt America. Shame on you. How about a fair rate, reasonable late fees and a rate that is predictable.

The very maximum APR fees for credit cards should not be allowed to exceed 10%.

This constiuent believes that anyone who does not vote to approve Bill H.R. 5244 is not acting within the best interest of the hard working, tax paying, law abiding, American citizen.

Stop the credit card companies from bullying americans. Rates are raised without cause, late fees are outrageous, they set their own rules at the expense and suprise of their customers. They are animals, they operate like the mafia and it's time to stop them.

This abuse has got to be stopped and the bankruptcy law must be returned to a sane statute in order to protect consumers and prevent usury.

These credit card companies and their affiliated credit reporting agencies are hurting a lot of people and getting away with it. Despite my attempts to seek redress through the Burlington County Office of Consumer Affairs, and my State Assemblymen Connors and Conyers, nothing has been accomplished. Both sent letters to the credit card company and neither received a response. They just ignore them. They have made an adverse entry in my credit file, which I have obtained, over an $8.00 disputed bill despite repeated certified mail explaining the basis of my objections, which they also ignored. It's incredible to me that they can do this and get away with it.

It is time for Congress to take responsible action to protect the rights of the majority of the population of the US against unfair, unreasonable, exploitative. exhorbitant and unregulated fees, interest rate and term changes and penalties by credit card companies.

It is time to re-institute usury laws in this country. Credit card companies are running rampant over the American consumer. Rates are outrageous and getting worse by the day. We have never missed a payment or been late with one and we are being hit with having our rates raised from 14% to 23% and have no recourse but to pay off the card and close the account, or accept this outrage. This should be cause for criminal charges to be filed on the company for fraud in changing the agreement with the consumer in the middle of the contract. But we have no laws on the books to protect us. Please, it is time for you to represent the people who voted for you instead of corporate America We don't seem to have anyone looking out for our interests or trying to protect us from predatory lenders out there. HELP, PLEASE....

To allow this to continue would be absolutely unconscionable.

I find the greed of "big" corporations World wide to be an abomination! The unethical and immoral pursuit of the "almighty dollar" as is the direction of the Oil companies, banks and Credit Card Companies is completely wrong and NOT the way God intended us to be stewards of the "gifts" HE has given us! WE MUST STOP THIS NOW BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE! Rev. Ronald G. Cosseboom

Credit card fees and allowed interest rates currently being accessed on the consumers are a disgrace and more and more limiting consumption which is needed to correct some of the economic problems we are currently facing. The apparent uncontrolled charges currently allowed are destructive to the average citizen. That plus the elimination of allowing interest being an income tax deduction is further evidence that the well-being of the middle class citizens in this country is of no interest to you as a legislator. Please address this problem and amend the law for the common good of all in our country, not just your financiers.

I seriously doubt you will find a significant number of constituents who won't support this bill, considering how widely accepted and complained about the duplicitous and predatory practices are.

The rising costs of living including food, heating and gas prices are making it impossible for many families to cover the bare necessities without using credit cards to fill in the gaps. Many people's salary has not increased, let alone doubled in the amount of time that gas prices have gone from $1.75 a gallon to $3.55 a gallon. And yet the credit card companies keep putting on the squeeze in every conceivable way--outrageous late fees, doubled check cashing fees, and over the top interest rates. And the bottom line is the "money" they give us credit on actually has no substance--they loan us money based on no tangible reality. It's time for members of Congress to put the breaks on the credit card companies, and to call an end to outrageous fees, unfair rate hikes and unjust changes in terms, and all the numerous ways the credit card companies set tar baby traps for people to fall into. I'm contacting my Senators and Representative to support HR5244 Credit Cardholders Bill of Rights Act--how about you?

What the real cause of the next possible depression could result from, is the economic imbalance caused by a government that supports big money makers over its common people. Don't create the need for real life Robin Hoods, instead let us take the appropriate steps to help out the common American citizen.
