The sooner we learn to use fuel cells, biodiesel, solar power the sooner we will be truely independant.

Please demand an investigation into the price gouging of oil and in the interim please support a windfall tax for their complicity in this massive profiteering racket.

Both the president, George W. Bush, and the the vice-president, Dick Cheney, both oil magnates themselves, should call the oil company executives into the oval office, and tell them that if they do not justify the high prices of their produces, they are going to face windfall profits taxes from Congress. I am betting that if they would do this for us citizens, we will send some positive results.

I invite all of your readers to contact the Whitehouse with this request. This very unfair burden on the poor is causing a widening rift between the middle class the very needy.

Teh oil magnates Geaorge Bush and Dick Cheney need to take action to tell the oil companies to drop back the prices which they can. Those two of course will not do that as they are profiting madly and intend to deplete the Americanpeople. So Congress must take action to impeach those two for the sins they are committing against the american people

Other countries have nationalized their oil companies, with good effects on the population generally. The very least that private oil companies can do is to accept taxation on the windfall profits they have made in dealings with the citizens of this country.

The windfall tax should finance extensive public transport and renewable, non-polluting energy.

Why is it that, when oil companies are showing record profits, we are suffering ever-skyrocketing prices? The supply and demand are not significantly different, just corporate greed. And what are our elected representatives doing about it? Largely, I believe, profitting from it. Time to demand a change!

Windfall taxes should be significant and used to fund effective
research on new fuel technologies and mass transit plans.
Elected Democrats in both houses have been so irresponsible
and have lost touch with the real strength of America--the
working class of people for at least the last 6 years. They appear to be as afraid of the Bush gangsters as any common person might be. With all of the Wasington corruption cases going on.....they are viewed as just as much of the problem
as the Republicans are. Republicans don't care about the common person---corporate profits and religious wars are
everything. Democrats are not consolidated and have no idea
how to effectively protect the citizens of the U.S. or.....maybe they're not much different from the Republicans. Maybe they are all so rich and have been prospering from tax dollars that they all forgot who and what principles they are supposed to be working for and valueing ????????????? Current politics is killing this country in so many ways.

I find it interesting that all forms of media consistently refer to the effect of high gas prices on middle class Americans.
Why not simply show the price of a quart of milk on average in CA. (2.69) and a gallon of gas (3.89) = (6.58)? I'm sure our American think tanks can do the math. Winfall taxes should not be limited to oil and energy companies. Supply and demand, open borders, and government allowing corporations to merge has lead all americans to more then just empty gas tanks.

Gentlemen:

Is it too much to hope that you might have the courage and decency to vote in the public interest rather than in the interest of corporations whose "arrogance of power" is as shameless as that of the Bush administration itself?

Could you not vote at least occasionally as if you were not utterly beholden to such corporate interests?

Vote in the interest of "the common man." Vote in the interest of the tens of millions of Americans who labor daily under the burden of a national minimum wage that makes a mockery of "the American dream."

Try it, please. You might find it refreshing. Your own children and grandchildren might someday thank you for doing so.

Respectfully,

H.C. Nash

If the oil companies feel they must have our money. We feel we must get a return on it. They need to be taught a lesson.

The exorbitant profits of oil companies should be taxed. In Fact, the companies should be nationalized to belong to the people.

Finally, a man of intelligence, integrity, and principles . All those of you in congress who have no vested, monetary interest in the oil industry (are there any?) should back this man's endeavor to reduce the inflated price of oil.
The American sheeple are becoming rams. We have had enough and will no longer remain passively acceptive of the lies we are being force fed by the Bush administration while they line their pockets with this conflict of interests, which, surprisingly, remains the silent sin of our moraly bankrupt "leaders".
Enough is enough!

Gasoline is too expensive and the most riduculous thing is that from day to day, prices change so much that it looks like
(see I told you so), you should have purchased your gasoline yesterday. Well, yesterday wasn't payday, so that's the crooked part about this nasty war.

Polease, because of their huge profits, change the taxes of the oil and energy companies. INCREASE their taxes! Our government is working for rich people and corporations, and working to hurt all the rest of us. Start now, and pass higher taxes on these very very rich corporations.

Oil companies definitely need to have that revenue taxed. The US is now the same as any of the South American countries in that regard - the oil companies come in, take away all of the natural resources, devestate the land, and what do the inhabitants get - nothing!!

I think it's time to take action against oil and energy companies that are taking advantage of americans with high prices to boost their profits. A windfall tax is in order for their complicity or compliancy with high prices.

This is by far the most pathetic way of running a country that I have ever seen in my life. We're in the worst deficit this country has ever seen all because of this meaningless war that Bush assumed there was weapons of mass destruction. I think just wanted to make Daddy proud and finish what his father couldn't. I also think it's all about getting that oil in Iraq. ANd with that I will say that's the reason gas prices are skyrocketing and the price per barrel of oil is astronomical. Bush is not doing anything about cause him and Cheney are probably filling there pockets with all this profit there making. It's ashame that our government is letting these big wig oil companies take advantage of hard working americans who work hard to make ends meat like myself. There's no reason why gas prices should be this high. I'm very disappointed.

If this continues people will not be able to afford to drive to work. In cities this might be a terrible problem, but if you are rural it is! How long before people start freezing to death in their own homes because they cannot afford the cost of heating oil? America is loosing it's very soul to big business. While the businessmens pockets are full, the common man's pockets are empty. How much more will we have to sacrifice to keep the elites palms greased? How long do you think Americans will be willing to sacrifice everything, so that a few can have it all?
