Action pnum267 Last 25 Messages Transmitted Log Re-Authorize The 1993 Voting Rights Act To Promote Inclusion And Empower All Citizens ********** [190615:091306] J.T., Clearwater, FL Dear Mr. Sanders, Iam originially from Ohio, but have been a long time resident in Florida, funny both states seem to have the same problems with voting.(not) I hope you can point me in the right direction. Samm Simpson is running for congress in district 10 (in Florida) we got her on the ballot by signatures. We are a grass roots group of people, basically the working poor, which brings me to our problem. We cannot get any backing from the Democratic party, until we raise $100,000.00 We don't have money , but we have something more important votes! and I believe we can really win this if we just had enough money for a local cable commercial. I have never been involved in this sort of thing, and I didn't understand how we could be turned away..If we want our countryback, we need to get rid of everyone in Congress who is a war lover, ours is the biggest , Bill Young! Any suggestions on where or how to get local dem. Support? I always turn to my home( Ohio) when I can't seem to get anywhere here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated 1st time volenteer, Jean Toth ********** [165423:090206] D.N., Wabash, IN I supports Demcrats that for the American people. But I do not support Demcrats that want mexicans to stay in the US.They should wait in line to be USA person. These Mexcans are being our wages down. Plus I gave my job, so these Mexicans can have job down there in Mexico. But I am outrage some these demcrats want these Mexicans to stay in the USA. This is American people land not the Mexicans land. Maybe some of these demcrats want to have Mexicans to stay USA, then they should apply for Mexico to be a sentor. Not a USA sentor. ********** [133400:090206] G.H., Phoenix, AZ It is simply outrageous that we've dumbed down the meaning of accountability to mean that we've got to support the authority of congress and the executive branch, and NOT demand accountability in any meaningful sense of the word;; NOT ask for an open and heated discussion much like our only remaining--and headed for the door--ally, Great Britain, has with its prime minister on a continuing basis IN PUBLIC--no, we've got to sit at home and salivate when Fox News says, BE AFRAID!! And most of us are not so afraid any more. So, your reaction is to cut the only legitimate means of communicating and organizing out from under us, and at the same time call it Internet Freedom (freedom to take away our means of communication; I'm talking to you, John ("who's your daddy now" blessed by the cokehead Bush) McCain)--we need a national debate--a real one, where we use words that haven't been corrupted by the Repugnant war on the language--where real people can speak to power without regard for the message on their TShirt--where real people are let into the room; where the lights are on for more than the time it takes for this utterly corrupt, morally bankrupt and never able to recover to pay the bill to this country, administration to spout a few more lies, catapulting the propoganda. We're in very deep. We're all so depressed we'll probably all just go off and die in a garage full of carbon monoxide, if we can afford enough gas to get there from here. But you guys just keep on spending the money we send you every payday, and don't give another thought to what your job is. Outrageous. I'm very sorry but it is impossible for me to summon any more respect for your offices, you've all degraded them so much for so long. ********** [133128:090206] J.K., Fairfield, CA It is simply not acceptable to be sitting on the reauthorization of the 1993 Voting Rights Act to Promote Inclusion and Empower All Citizens. Already, states are starting to put up barriers to people being able to vote by making it more difficult. Staates are doing this by requiring more bureaucratic steps for registered voters to vote, or making voter registration more difficult, with severe financial penalties for errors by volunteers. As usual, it is the poor who have the problems in getting through these barriers, consequently hitting minorities, and the elderly. The last two presidential elections were frought with irregularities: 2002 in Florida (in which the Supreme Court GAVE Bush the presidency as a result of those irregularities going to court) and in Ohio in 2004. Please immediately push to get the Re-Authorization of the 1993 Voting Act moving and passed. The next election, which is critical, is coming up very quickly. ********** [122356:090206] S.C., Wernersville, PA Why vote if republicans steal it every time? The crime of stealing and /or altering votes is serious and no republican would like it if the Democrats did it. With fraudulent voting and the exclusion of those known to vote a certain way, we destroy the value of the sacrifices of our beave men and women who have served this country since its' birth. ********** [082343:090206] t.c., Sparks Glencoe, MD Do you know about the vote rigging prototype written by Clint Curtis at the request of Tom Feeney? Have you seen the house testimony by Curtis? Do you know about Ray Lemme the dead inspector general from FDOT who was investigating Yang Enterprises for over billing and stumbled across the vote rig scandal? Do you know he was about to blow the vote rig case wide open when he was murdered? (Oops I forgot the official story is one of suicide complete with coverup coutesy of the Valdosta plice dept). You tell us you are counting on our votes but the process is rigged and our votes won't count. Still I know the only way for truth to come out is for the numbers to turn up so vote I wll. It just seems so hopless. ********** [215038:083106] A.B., Columbus, OH The 1993 Voting Rights Act must be reauthorized to ensure inclusion and empowerment of ALL citizens and to end voter suppression and disenfranchisement. ********** [142856:083106] k.h., Wickliffe, OH The lie has gone too far and caused too many deaths, on all sides. It's past time to bring our kids home. We need to cut our losses and get out now. This war was illegal to begin with. The administration and the authors of this war, mainly Cheney, need to be held accountable. At the end of the day the responsibility lies with Bush. They should all be sent to the Hague and tried for the criminal acts they have committed, but not before our troops are home. ********** [090447:071106] w.j., Reno, NV Please re-authorize the 1993 voting Rights Act To PromoteInclusion And Empower All Citizens The last 2 presidential elections were stolen by illegal and fraudulent means and computer tampering We must eliminate computer voting and return to real paper ballots. ********** [115326:061906] D.W., Berkeley, CA The vote suppression and computer election rigging was massvie and flagrant in 2004. We are no longer living in a democracy. The right to vote is a precious as life and liberty to me. Election fruad is a greater threat to our democracy than terrorism. We must, as citizens and representatives, do everything in our power to resoter deomcracy in America! God Bloess. ********** [041030:052606] P.C., Floresville, TX Fair and transparent voting processess are essential to preserving a democracy. ********** [094350:052506] R.R., Flushing, NY We must protect the right to vote. One person one vote. And that means each and every person in the country. That is the American ideal. Suppression of the right to vote is undemocratic and is a hallmark tactic of fascist dictators. Fascists in this country want to find a way to twist, spin and distort that simple truth. Suppression of the vote is all about money and power. So is campaign finance reform. We must educate ourselves. We must shine a light on their shady business and political corruption which is destroying democracy. ********** [015317:052506] T.W., Ocala, FL I am in favor of the re-authorization of the 1993 Voting Rights Act to promote inclusion and empower ALL citizens. There is no reason that a U.S. citizen should not be entitled to vote ... be it their race, religion, sex, etc. As a matter of fact, more people should be voting. The statistics I've heard of the number that do are disappointing, at best. I had no idea that it could be that some were denied the ability to do so, even though they were citizens. Should more citizens participate in elections, we, as a nation, might get a better idea of who the country is truly leaning toW.... instead of just the few percent that actually DO get out and vote. Then, the true candidate of the people can be chosen. Thank you. ********** [052100:052206] C.B., Venice, FL Voting is the right of every citizen of the United States of America. The government (neither local, county, state or federal) does not have the right to deny a citizen the right to vote. On the contrary it should be encouraging and helping everyone to register and get to the polls. The Federal government must make sure that each and every voting precinct within the country is treated equally and has enough equipment for its citizens to vote in a quick and efficient manner or declare that election days are national holidays so that everyone can wait in line to vote without fear of repercussions for being late to work. When the following items occur within sixty or thirty days of an election the persons involved should not be ineligible to vote: The locations of voting precincts are changed. A person moves from one precinct to another within the same city. A person moves from one city to another within the same state. The states must allow all its citizens to vote. If there is a question of legal eligibility at a precinct the person should be allowed to vote and the vote held in abeyance until the legality issue is resolved or the issue of the persons eligibility at that precinct must be resolved then and there. It is not correct to turn a person away, force a person to drive miles away to another area to vote or to make a person wait for hours while people at the voting precinct discuss what to do. There have to be centralized information clearing areas so that people are not turned away at the voting precincts. Then of course there is the issue of the number of voting machines and voting equipment itself. I do not objective to Touch Screen voting. I would like to have a paper receipt for my vote. It is amazing that Venezuela (a third world country) was able to provide Touch Screen Voting with paper receipt for its citizens (even in the far reaches of the mountains and jungles) yet the "richest" nation in the world cannot provide this for its own citizens. Over the last 3 elections (2000, 2002 and 2004) there have been too many discrepancies and proven accounts of fraud and tampering for the American people to trust the electronic vote without any written proof. The Congress of the United States of America needs to enforce and strengthen the Voting Rights Acts so that every American is not only allowed to vote but also encouraged to do so. Congress needs to make sure that the people are not allowed to be intimidated or threatened by law enforcement or political party representatives by making it a federal crime to interfere with a persons right to vote. It also needs to make sure that voting precincts are protected from fraud and intimidation by posting either US Marines or Federal Marshals at every voting polls in the nation. ********** [201250:052006] K.F., Eugene, OR Re-Authorize The 1993 Voting Rights Act To Promote Inclusion And Empower All Citizens. ********** [085215:051806] C.H., Forsyth, GA Passage of the Thirteenth, Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the National voting Rights Act of 1993 collectively have strengthened the voting rights of African Americans, and other minority voters over the last century. The process of pre-clearance found in section '5' of the Voting Rights Act beckons for continued attention and ultimate re-validation before 2007. Apparently, some elements in both Houses of Congress don't see the need to promote inclusion but would prefer voter supression. Reference Florida in 2000, and Ohio in 2004. Please work to promote the inclusion of over two million African American Voters who have fallen victim to arbitrary Felon Disenfranchisement Laws. Please speake out to eliminate any semblance of obstruction to full inclusion of all Americans to participate in the political process. ********** [141339:051706] A.H., New York, NY Free and fair elections are the essence of democracy. Passage of the Thirteenth, Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the National voting Rights Act of 1993 collectively have strengthened the voting rights of African Americans, and other minority voters over the last century. The skewed results of these recent elections were accomplished in large part by purging the participation of people anticipated to vote the "wrong" way. Even if we were to cure all other problems in counting AFTER the vote, this cannot fix the purging of our base before they even get to the polls. It is therefore critically important that we all speak out now to not only renew the Voting Rights Act, but to also strengthen it in light of recent and more sophisticated abuses. Our presidential elections were stolen by the cabal of thugs now occupying the white House and who are systematically destroying this country. When we talk about taking back Congress, that is what we will have to do, TAKE IT. Nobody is going give us anything we won't give to ourselves. ********** [121659:051506] L.J., Abington, PA I believe that the right to vote is central to our democracy, and ask that you protect that right by renewing, and even strengthening, the Voting Rights Act of 1993. ********** [112450:051406] c.c., Portland, OR George Bush Jr. stole the 2000 election. George Bush Jr. stole the 2004 election. The radical (re)publicans stole elections in 2002, e.g. Georgia U.S. Senate seat amongst others. New Jim Crow actions by George Bush Jr. and today's radical (re)publicans have turned America into the laughing stock of the world and a banana republic. I was drafted and served during Vietnam and now in my later life my country is being sold out by the draft dodging cowards George Bush Jr. and Richard Cheney. Sad, but true. ********** [173911:051206] D.N., Mansfield Center, CT Reauthorize the Voting Rights Act to include ALL voters! ********** [092840:051106] l.s., Ventura, CA I am speaking out to eliminate any semblance of obstruction to full inclusion of all Americans to participate in the political process. Voting is the foundation of democracy!!! ********** [235103:051006] D.M., Rocklin, CA Citizens who have access to voting enable and can flourish a democracy. Any time of voter suppression is a strike against democracy. ********** [103209:051006] R.T., Wilmington, DE Re-Authorize The 1993 Voting Rights Act To Promote Inclusion And Empower All Citizens ********** [071926:051006] l.s., New Lenox, IL Pass and Protect voting rights in our country.Since 2000 we cannot trust that our votes will be counted or count. The Hava law did not help people it only made our voting less secure .This is the most important issue of today. ********** [071842:051006] A.S., San Francisco, CA What year is it? 1867? Oh! It's 2006! Things haven't changed much with regard to voting rights, have they? That's funny, I thought I lived in a democracy. Why do we even need this piece of legislation? It's an embarrassment. Time to take the government out of the hands of our fascist brethren and return it to the democratic people of the United States. ********** |
